Artist Statement + Biography
Threads of an ancestry fold together creating a playful and intimate entanglement. Duppy Dupplicity, is a search for belonging and engagement through a black history. Duppy means ghost in Jamaican Patois. It is a call to unveil a hidden story. For a voice within a sliver of time to reenact itself. The art of tufting intertwines a multiplicity of threads, threads that represent experiences from a past. A past that is imperative to today. Duppy Dupplicity, is an invitation to awaken undiscovered narratives. A gesture to unpack personal histories and to reveal echoes within a black heritage.
