Artist Statement + Biography
Watching the waves at dusk on a cold, grey beach can evoke feelings of melancholy. An unsettling feeling settles during a confrontation with the vast dark water, a vast unknown. Using the ocean as a metaphor for the internet and the colour blue as a feeling of the same name, pohan attempts to represent contentment with not knowing and melancholy. The title of the exhibition is taken from a song about finding peace in the depth of the ocean and death called Never Let Me Go by Florence + the Machine.
nathan pohan is an interdisciplinary artist currently residing in Calgary. He has completed his BFA in Painting and minor in Print Making at Alberta University of the Arts. He is an emotional and selfish being who utilizes personal texts as his main material. nathan’s practice can be seen as a constructive personal coping mechanism towards a simultaneous longing and fear of deep connection with others.
